Lisa rocks! Jul 08, Diane Bracuk rated it it was amazing. As someone who struggled with a teenage eating disorder, I practically pardon the pun devoured The Hungry Mirror in one sitting. Most of the novel takes place at various lifestyle magazines, where the protagonist works with a circle of media-savvy women obsessed with weight and body image.
Gossamer, insubstantial, ephemeral beauty is the newest craze.
The Hungry Mirror | , | VitalSource
Beauty that cannot last; beauty that is so fragile it exists only for a moment before it vanishes. Instead, there is a suggestion of an uneasy truce made with food, and that fighting the yearning for an idealized, unattainable thinness will always be a lifelong battle.
Someone might find this book repetitive but it is probably an accurate description of the mindset of someone with an eating disorder. Was interesting and educational. I was completely spellbond by a world I had no idea about - Lisa writes such an incredible internal dialogue that I wept at her characters struggle.
